William Herbert Thompson

October 17, 1940 — June 24, 2020

W. Herbert Thompson, Jr. Central, SC William Herbert Thompson, Jr., 79, husband of Shelby Littleton Thompson, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2020.

Herbert was born in Oconee County, a son of the late Wilma Stevenson and William Herbert Thompson, Sr. He was a graduate of D.W. Daniel High School and attended North Greenville College and Central Wesleyan College. Herbert was a former employee with Pratt Read and Company, Carolina Plating, and then began an 18-year career as the Town Administrator for the Town of Central. While serving as the Town Administrator he administered the Pickens County Recycling Program, was instrumental with the annexation of Southern Wesleyan University into Town Limits, oversaw major sewer and water projects, and was a leader in coordinating with other municipalities and county agencies to more efficiently serve the community. After retiring from the Town of Central, he served as interim Administrator for the Town of Pickens. He was a former volunteer fireman, Town Councilman, Municipal Judge, and was very active in all activities offered in the Central community. He was a very active member of Central First Baptist Church where he served in many capacities of leadership. Following his retirement, he has enjoyed working with his grandsons with their Lawn Care Service.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are his son, Greg Thompson and his wife, Kim of Central; brother, Lamar Thompson and his wife, Vickie of Seneca; grandsons, Justin Thompson and wife, Reanna; Zeke Thompson; great grandchildren, Delilah and Brynleigh.

In addition to his parents, Herb was predeceased by a grandson, Isaiah Thompson.

Private family graveside services will be held at Memory Gardens.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic the family has chosen to have private services but will hope that all friends and family will join them to Celebrate Herbert's life at Central First Baptist Church at a time and date to be determined. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Central First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 338, Central, SC 29630.
