William G. "Bill" Hudson

William Garraux Hudson, 85, died Sunday Dec. 12 at NHC Nursing Home in Greenville, SC, of complications from Alzheimer�??s. He was the son of the late J.H. and Valera Waite Hudson of Westminster, SC, and resided in Clemson, SC for 60 years.
Hudson was a former professor of mechanical engineering and taught at Clemson University for 37 years. He retired in 1985.
Known to most as "Bill", he was a lifelong member of Westminster Baptist Church. Hudson graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Clemson in 1946 after returning from service in the U.S. Army during WWII. He fought in the "Battle of the Bulge" in Northern France and was honorably discharged after suffering frostbite.
Prof. Hudson began teaching mechanical engineering at Clemson in 1948. For many years he also worked for NCEES (the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying), headquartered in Clemson. NCEES administers exams for licensing professional engineers and surveyors. Hudson helped write and score exams for the organization.
Hudson earned a master�??s degree in mechanical engineering from Clemson and a second master�??s from the University of Michigan. He was awarded many honors as an M.E. professor, including: Professor of the Year from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 1974; the Alumni Master Teacher Award from Clemson Univerisity, 1981; Educator of the Year from the SC Society of Professional Engineers, 1985.
Hudson was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Marjorie C. Hudson and his son, William "Gary" Hudson. He is survived by sons Hayden C. Hudson and wife Lou Ann of Greer, SC; Douglas M. Hudson of Norcross, GA; Robert C. Hudson and wife Karin of Charlotte, NC; also, three grandchildren �?" Brian Hudson of Greer; Amanda Hudson and Matthew Hudson of Charlotte.
Services will be held Friday at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons, Central, SC. Visitation from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel with burial to follow at Memory Gardens in Clemson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the hospice chapter of one�??s choice or to the Alzheimer�??s Association.
