Sylvester Parker

William Sylvester Parker, 89, of 150 Bagwell Street, passed away Monday, February 28, 2011 at Baptist Easley Hospital.
Born in Transylvania County, NC, a son of the late William Arthur and Carrie Louise McCall Parker, Mr. Parker retired as a supervisor in textiles and was a member of Jones Avenue Baptist Church where he belonged to the Golden Years Sunday School Class. He served with the coast artillery in the US Army during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Duncan Parker of the home; a step-son, James Michael Whitmire of Cedartown, GA; a step-daughter, Wanda Gail Smith of Easley; a brother, Leonard Parker of Simpsonville; a sister, Dollie Bagwell of Pickens; eight step-grandchildren and twelve step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Parker was predeceased by three brothers, Earl, Rev. A.G. and J.B. Parker, and by two sisters, Marie Garrett and Effie Nix.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with Rev. Dr. Roger Couch and Rev. Charlie Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
The Golden Years Sunday School Class will serve as honorary escorts.
Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home, prior to the service.
