William A. Smyth

William "Bill" Alvin Smyth, 91, of 106 Liberty Drive, husband of the late Irene Lee Smyth, died Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at Palmetto Health Baptist Easley.
Mr. Smyth was born in Pickens County and was a retired gunsmith, expert gardener and bee keeper, US Army World War II veteran, author of Christian tracks, lay minister, and creative artist.
Bill brought joy and inspiration to those who met him, with his cheery disposition and deep genuine faith. He could often be heard singing "Keep On the Sunny Side of Life", in his beautiful voice, and quoting Bible passages from memory.
Survivors include his "adopted brother" Albert Gill, Sr. of Easley; his "adopted daughters", Renee Zarnowski of Easley, and Susan Vickery-Mercer of Greenville, NC; and his "adopted son", Calvin Mercer of Greenville, NC.
Graveside services will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens. There will be an opportunity for friends to share stories about Bill during the graveside service. A military salute and American flag folding will occur at the end of the service.
Friends will be received from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. Saturday at the graveside, prior to the service. The body can be viewed at this time.
