Willie Thomas Evatt, Sr., 85, of 7527 Moorefield Memorial Highway, husband of the late Lois Allene Brooks Evatt, to whom he was married for sixty-one years,
passed away Saturday, November 27, 2010, at Baptist Hospital Easley.
Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Samuel Clayton and Izetta McWorter Evatt, Mr. Evatt retired as Superintendent of the Liberty Plant of Vulcan Materials after over forty-two years of service. He was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and formerly taught the Harbin Sunday School Class, He was a veteran of World War II having served with the US Army in the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Evatt was also a member of the Woodmen of the World.
Surviving are three sons, Willie Thomas Evatt, Jr., of Greenville, James Clayton Evatt (Sheryl) of Liberty, and Donald Eugene Evatt (Becky) of Easley; a daughter, Nancy Evatt Anderson (James) of Pickens; a sister, Sarah Willis of Easley; an adopted son Dennis Patterson (Joyce) of Liberty; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Evatt was predeceased by a son, Charles Edward Evatt, by five brothers, a sister and two half-brothers.
Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Tuesday at Flat Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Goss and Rev. Louis Faulkenberry officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Members of the Harbin Sunday School Class and present and former deacons are asked to serve as honorary escorts.
The body is at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown and will be placed in the church at 12:30 pm Tuesday where the family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Flat Rock Baptist Church, 115 Slab Bridge Road, Liberty, SC 29657.
