Wilton Claude "Bill" Thompson, 87, of 4419 Highway 86, died Thursday, December 7, 2006.

Born on January 6, 1919, in Stephens County, Ga, he was the son of the late Isom Edward "Eddie" and Minnie Lee Collins Thompson. He was a master machinist and retired from Superior Auto Parts. Mr. Thompson was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church where he served for many years as a Sunday School teacher and in the church music department. He formed a quartet called The Pilgrims, that performed for nursing homes and churches. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World, and during his retirement years, he was an avid farmer and loved working with Farmall Tractors.

Surviving are his wife Argle "Hon" Timms Thompson, of the home; two sons, Hoyt E. Thompson and wife Peggy, Randall C. Thompson and wife Carolyn, all of Easley; two daughters, Helen Orr, Gail Counts and husband Jim, all of Easley; three step-sons, Relmon Cartee and wife Mary, Allen Cartee and wife Emily, all of Anderson, Eddie Cartee and wife Delta, of Commerce, GA; a step-daughter-in-law, Ellen Cartee of Columbia; nine grandchildren, Barry Orr, Jeff Orr, Greg Thompson, Scott Thompson, Randy Thompson, David Thompson, Chris Blackston, Chad Blackston, Angie Taylor; eight step-grandchildren, Kaycee Cartee, Christopher Cartee, Michelle Morris, Roy Cartee, Katie Cartee, Jeremy Cartee, Stephanie Morvay, Suzanne Russell; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a special neighbor, Johnny Enloe; and the Owens family whom he loved dearly. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two wives, Mary Elizabeth Owens Thompson, Amanda Jane Thompson; a son-in-law, Carroll Orr; and a step-son, Larry Cartee.

Funeral services will be 2:30 PM Sunday at Mt. Airy Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Keith Shorter, Rev. Dave Storay, Rev. Ken Holcombe, and Rev. Dave Shorter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1:00 until 2:30 PM Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mt. Airy Baptist Church Building Fund; 210 Mt. Airy Church Road; Easley, SC 29642.

The family is at the home.
