Winifred Pettis Argano

Winifred Pettis Argano, 88, widow of Liborio Mariano Argano, died Monday, October 16, 2017 at Pruitt Health, Six Mile.

Born in Richmond, VA, she was a daughter of the late Dr. James B. and Winifred Graham Tinsley Pettis. She was a longtime resident of Spencer, NY and retired as a purchasing agent with the Department of Aging in Hauppauge, Suffolk County, NY. She was a 1951 graduate of Randolph Macon College for Women in Ashland, VA. Winifred was very active in her former community having been a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Van Etten, NY, a Lioness in the Lions Club of Spencer, NY, a member of the Purple Hats and a Lay Person with St. Marks Episcopal Church in Candor, NY. She enjoyed bowling, reading and was an avid traveler. She also enjoyed serving as a court stenographer.

Winifred is survived by a son, Mario James (Thelma) Argano of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Ann Argano (Daniel) Hofmann of Six Mile, SC; sister, Ann Pettis Mayo of Goshen, NY; nieces, Susan and Elizabeth; nephew, John Tyler; and grandchildren, Jenna Palermo, Lauren Palermo and Michael Argano.

Funeral services will be 4 PM, Monday, October 23, 2017 in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central, SC.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM, Monday prior to the service.
