Woodrow "Woody" Arthur Dyar

Woodrow "Woody" Arthur Dyar, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the age of 79.

Born on August 11, 1945, in Central, SC, he was a son of the late Arthur and Nina Gassaway Dyar.

Woody attended Western Carolina University on a football scholarship and later received his masters degree from Clemson University.

Woody began his career with Abbott Laboratories. After several years he returned to Clemson as a graduate assistant for the football team and to receive his masters degree. Upon graduation, he went to work selling medical equipment for Beckman Coulter. Outside of work Woody was known for his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and spending time on his boat. He was an avid supporter of animal welfare organizations. Woody could always be found cheering for the Tigers, enjoying all Clemson Sports. He also was a proud member of the "Maw Bridge Social Club" where he would gather with local friends.

Woody is survived by Janet Crenshaw, who stood by his side through life's many journeys. He is also survived by his brother Frank Dyar; his sister, Dorothy "Dot" Johnston; and many loving nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory. Woody touched the lives of numerous friends, who will remember him fondly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers—Dewit, Joe, Larry, and David—and his sister, Ann Horton.

A funeral service to celebrate Woody’s life will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, located at 310 Church St, Central, SC 29630.

Family and friends will gather after the service at the Esso Club located at, 129 Old Greenville Hwy #1, Clemson, SC 29631.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
